Sound velocity profiles (AML-3 LGR entire dataset) of SV DVOCEAN, Rhine River, Germany

Description: This dataset comprises the sound velocity profiles (.csv) which were collected along a high-resolution multibeam echosounder (MBES) bathymetry and backscatter survey campaign in a 7.5 km segment of the River Rhine (km 747.0–754.5, Düsseldorf, Germany) between July 24th and 31st, 2024. The survey, conducted with a Kongsberg EM2040P MKII multibeam echosounder operated at a frequency of 300 kHz, achieved a point density of ≥ 160 points/m² and met the IHO Special Order standards (horizontal uncertainty ≤ 15 cm, vertical uncertainty ≤ 3 cm). The dataset comprises the raw sound velocity profiles which were collected with an AML-3 LGR device from AML Oceanographic. The sound velocity profiles were taken every 4 hours. Since the probe can be equipped with three sensors simultaneously, the provided files to not only contain the measured sound velocity values at the respective depths, but also turbidity and pressure information for each record. The collected profiles were directly imported to the multibeam acquisition software. During the import process, the profile was reviewed, outliers were removed and the measured profile was applied to be recognized for the multibeam data acquisition. However, the provided files refer to the raw data which means that outliers etc. are still present and must be removed before applied to hydrographic surveys to ensure a refraction correction and thus accurate depth information.
