Description: technologyComment of tin production (RoW): The technology used by the Ausmelt Furnace, for the smelting of tin concentrates, is based on the patent developed by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of Australia CSIRO. None technologyComment of tin production (PE): The technology used by the Ausmelt Furnace, for the smelting of tin concentrates, is based on the patent developed by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of Australia CSIRO. The slag is sent to San Rafael mine where is used for the paste- filling process, therefore the system does not include slag storage and treatment.

Comment: This is a market activity. Each market represents the consumption mix of a product in a given geography, connecting suppliers with consumers of the same product in the same geographical area. Markets group the producers and also the imports of the product (if relevant) within the same geographical area. They also account for transport to the consumer and for the losses during that process, when relevant. This is the market for 'tin', in the Global geography. In this market, expert judgement was used to develop product specific transport distance estimations. This market is supplied by the following activities with the given share: tin production, PE: 0.0569071901275616 tin production, RoW: 0.943092809872438 generalComment of tin production (PE): This dataset describes the operation of a tin smelter and refinery plant in Peru, The plant has a process capacity of 240 tons concentrate/day and produces around 40,000 tons of refined tin per year (99.95% Sn). The metallurgical installation consists of a plant where the smelting and reduction processes are carried out in a furnace designed with Ausmelt technology (named Ausmelt furnace). The Ausmelt furnace is fed with a metered mixture of tin oxide concentrates, coal, fuel, iron ore, limestone and process recirculating material (slag and drosses). The process uses natural gas which facilitates the retreatment of older, higher grade slags. The mixture of fuel, combustion air and coal are introduced into the furnace, obtaining at the end of each batch raw metallic tin of 99.95% Sn and slag. The combustion gases pass through a cooling system and continue flowing to a system of bag filters for the capture of solid particles that are then returned to the process. The process is fed with underground fresh water, 34% of the water is evaporated during the process, 61% is used for the cooling system and 5% is used for irrigation (feed stock and gardens). The slag is placed on a temporary stockpile located on the plant, and finally is transported to San Rafael mine (located in Puno province) to be used for the underground mining activities as a paste-fill material. imageUrlTagReplace62994d45-127f-4a9d-92ef-6446ddaedcd3 generalComment of tin production (RoW): This dataset describes the operation of a tin smelter and refinery plant.
