Description: Das Projekt "Deformation, Fluidfluss und Mineral..." wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Basel, Institut für Umweltgeowissenschaften, Forschungsgruppe Geologie und Paläontologie durchgeführt. The study of crustal fluids has strongly influenced our perspective on a range of geological processes. Chemical mass transport by migrating fluids may change the chemical and mineralogical composition of rocks. Fluid induced mineral reactions may also influence the rheological properties of tectonites. In particular they may reduce rock strength when mechanically strong minerals are replaced by mechanically weak mineral aggregates, and they may facilitate embrittlement due to elevated pore pressure. This project addresses the intimate links between fluid flow, chemical alteration, mineral reactions and rock deformation by correlating mineralogical and (isotope) geochemical signatures with (micro-) structural features that were generated during deformation along the Glarus thrust.
