Description: Das Projekt "FP1-ENVPROT 4C, Interaction of Ozone, Acid Mist, Water and Nutrient Deficiency on Norway Spruce" wird/wurde gefördert durch: Kommission der Europäischen Gemeinschaften Brüssel. Es wird/wurde ausgeführt durch: GSF-Forschungszentrum für Umwelt und Gesundheit GmbH.Objective: To generate scientific information in order to elucidate to what extent environmental limiting factors modify the plant response to air pollutants. General information: the project will assess, singly and in combination, the impact of - air pollutants (O3 on a background of SO2 and NOx; acid mist) - soil (selective Mg, K, and Ca deficiency), and - climate (water stress; frost) - on growth, physiological capability, and biochemical status of 4 year Old Clonal Norway spruce (picea abies (l.) Karst.). The proposed GSF project consists of two long-term experiments in the environmental chambers of the GSF (Munich/FRG). The GSF experiments are complemented by long-term experiments in the cerl solardomes (Cerl, Leatherhead/UK) and the outdoor fumigation system and cold treatment chambers of the dept. Of plant biology, university of Newcastle upon Tyne/UK. All experimental work at the three research institutes will be carried out on Clonal Norway spruce of identical origin (Kaufbeuren/FRG) and age (class 0+1+4).
