Description: Das Projekt "Large roof integreted pv array in the aachen combisol plant" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von NEA Neue Energie Forschung und Entwicklung gGmbH durchgeführt. Objective: - demonstration of an innovative photovoltaic generator, which is integrated harmonically into a biogas plant. - first application of a newly developed roof-integration system offering advantages with respect to costs, material use, cumulated energy consumption, and installation time. After detailed evaluation of the integration system (performance, reliability, etc. ), it will be commercialized on the open market; For subsequent projects, total costs well below 10 DM/Wp are expected. - exploitation of synergy of the newest photovoltaic system technology (string inverter technology, large area modules, plug systems, etc.) leading to improved plant monitoring, optimized energy yield, and reduced installation costs. - significant contribution from PV electricity to the energy supply of the bi-national industrial park Aachen/Heerlen. demonstration of the positive interaction between different RE sources (PV, WIND, Biogas). General Information: In the Combisol concept, it is a main idea to apply an integrated approach. In this approach, the specific requirements of the PV plant are taken into account at a very early stage in the planning phase of the building. For the Combisol plant, the preliminary building plans, which only considered the necessities of the biogas plant, were checked and modified. Optimization criteria were :optimal arrangement, ground plan, and south alignment of the buildings as well as type and slope of the roofs. Moreover, the total plant was changed to an aesthetic and attractive design. The integrated approach can lead to significant synergy effects. In the case of the Combisol plant, roof integration of the PV modules offers the opportunity to save the normal roof skin (trapezoid iron sheet) resulting in a credit of more than DM 120000. The combination of electricity production from a biogas plant and a PV generator will enable some balancing of the total power output. To improve the time behaviour, the biogas plant comprises a gas storage tank. The PV plant consists of a 330kWp generator (BP 585 laminates), which is integrated in the roof of the compost depot. The building suits perfectly well for this application, because the roof contains no chimneys, ventilation shafts, windows, etc. To optimize the usable roof area, a desk roof is used jutting out on each side, resulting in a total area of more than 2400 m?. The electric system design aims at innovative and cost-effective solutions. The most important features are: - use of string inverters with remote computer control - use of electrical plug systems to facilitate rational and simple installation - use of large modules to reduce DC cabling and installation time. The main advantages are: - improved MPP-tracking especially in the case of shadowing - reduced DC cabling and complete saving of field distributors. - reduced production losses in case of inverter failure - improved supervision and control of the plant.
