Description: Das Projekt "Schwefelzyklus und Bewegungen phototropher Bakterien im Cadagno-See" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Zürich, Institut für Pflanzenbiologie, Abteilung Physiologie und Mikrobiologie durchgeführt. Leading Questions: - What are the species of volatile sulfur compounds and what is their distribution in the lake? - What governs the distribution of the bacterial density at the redoxcline in the lake? - Can the (short time and long time) movements of the cells be determined in situ? Abstract: Phototrophic bacteria and sulfate reducing bacteria dominate the sulfur cycle in the hypolimnion of the lake. Part of the reduced sulfur is in organic form such as DMS and may influence the atmospheric chemistry when leaving the water phase. Phototrophic organisms show a diurnal cycle in the movement in the depth in which they are present. External factors dominate the behaviour of these organisms.
