Description: Das Projekt "Polare Perspektiven" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland GmbH durchgeführt. General Information: Polar Perspectives is a pilot multimedia project with a global multidisciplinary content. Polar issues of importance to our future will be presented in a joint effort by Europe's top photogrammetry and geography experts, researchers from a large number of disciplines, and imminent multimedia producers. Polar perspectives consists in 4 parts, all closely related to each other: 1) Polar Interactive Theatre: A presentation of satellite derived imagery combined with animations in a number of special polar and global stories, e.g. Ozone Depletion, Polar Topography, Sea Ice Fluctuations, Arctic and Antarctic Explorers, Ice Ages, Pole-to-Pole Migration of the Arctic Tern, etc. This innovative theatre will be integrated with a science exhibition, first to be shown in Bonn, later to travel to other European countries. The target audience will be the European public, schools, teachers, the science community. 2) Polar CD-ROM: This part of the project will include and expand what is shown in the Polar Interactive Theatre. Moreover, it will include other multimedia material from the exhibition, e.g. a presentation of the Pole-to-Pole ocean currents. It will also include and expand the exhibition encyclopeadia catalogue, and present artefacts shown in the exhibition. The target audience will be the educational market, and the public worldwide. 3) Polar Internet Service: To expand the public's chance to reach the information presented in 1 and 2 above, an educational internet service will be offered. Its main target group is schools. Teachers will be involved in creating the format of this service. 4) Geoinformatics Conference: A conference that will give the European interested parties an opportunity to discuss co-operation and markets for advanced geoinformatics. Targets groups for this conference are the science community, politicians, public administrators, geoinformatics specialists, multimedia industry, et al. Prime Contractor: Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland; Bonn; Germany.
