Green and Effective Operations at Terminals and in Ports (GREEN EFFORTS)

Description: Das Projekt "Green and Effective Operations at Terminals and in Ports (GREEN EFFORTS)" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Jacobs University Bremen gGmbH, Maritime Logistics Workgroup durchgeführt. Improved energy efficiency means to use less energy for same processes and/or to increase productivity in relation to energy consumption. Energy efficiency can be improved by - Rising awareness by - information (to know better) - training (to improve skills) - motivation (to rise the willingness to apply knowledge and skills) - Improve operations - Modify equipment or use more efficient equipment - Implement innovative solutions. Optimum results will always require a combination of all measures. Innovative Solutions This applies to new methodologies, tools or equipment not having been used before. Example: Exchanging terminals estimated consumption profiles for electric energy with the grid provider to allow peak estimation and improved management of available energy especially when including a higher percent-age of renewable energy (from wind), which is difficult to estimate quantitatively. All the mentioned methods to reduce energy consumption and/or to rise productivity in relation to energy consumed will result in a lower energy bill and a reduced carbon footprint of a terminal (and hence a port, hosting several terminals). The carbon footprint itself can become further reduced by exploiting energy sources with a lower carbon footprint than traditional hydrocarbons. This is regenerative energies and cleaner hydrocarbons as liquefied natural gas (LNG).
