Description: Das Projekt "Green and Effective Operations at Terminals and in Ports (GREEN EFFORTS)" wird/wurde gefördert durch: Kommission der Europäischen Gemeinschaften Brüssel. Es wird/wurde ausgeführt durch: Jacobs University Bremen gGmbH, Maritime Logistics Workgroup.Improved energy efficiency means to use less energy for same processes and/or to increase productivity in relation to energy consumption. Energy efficiency can be improved by - Rising awareness by - information (to know better) - training (to improve skills) - motivation (to rise the willingness to apply knowledge and skills) - Improve operations - Modify equipment or use more efficient equipment - Implement innovative solutions. Optimum results will always require a combination of all measures. Innovative Solutions This applies to new methodologies, tools or equipment not having been used before. Example: Exchanging terminals estimated consumption profiles for electric energy with the grid provider to allow peak estimation and improved management of available energy especially when including a higher percent-age of renewable energy (from wind), which is difficult to estimate quantitatively. All the mentioned methods to reduce energy consumption and/or to rise productivity in relation to energy consumed will result in a lower energy bill and a reduced carbon footprint of a terminal (and hence a port, hosting several terminals). The carbon footprint itself can become further reduced by exploiting energy sources with a lower carbon footprint than traditional hydrocarbons. This is regenerative energies and cleaner hydrocarbons as liquefied natural gas (LNG).
