For some decades, fractured oil/gas reservoirs, fractured aquifers and geothermal wells have provided important resources for many countries. Recently, fractured systems have also been under investigation for their suitability as storage/disposal sites for high-level nuclear waste. In this connection, understanding and characterizing flow and transport processes in fractured systems is a topic of major interest. The use of the discrete modeling approach in order to study flow and transport process in fractured systems requires the discrete description of the fracture structure in space, which can be achieved by the help of a fracture generator. Within this research work, the integration of the geostatistical approach into an existing fracture generator FRAC3D is carried out. Subsequently, the generated systems from a newly-developted geostatistical and an existing stochastic approach are compared and interpreted. Furthermore, the generated system is used as a preproccesing step for numerical simulations in order to achieve and complete the description of flow and transport processes in fractured systems.
