Description: Das Projekt "Entwicklung und Erprobung moderner Steuerungstechnik angewandt in Solargebaeuden" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Institut für Solarenergieforschung GmbH durchgeführt. General Information: OBJECTIVES. Passive and active solar energy represents a high potential energy source for a wide variety of European climates. However, the random nature and the intrinsic delay in solar availability make the control operation an essential feature in order to optimize the usability of solar gains in buildings while preventing the overheating risk. The objective of this project is to develop and test some new control techniques applied to solar buildings. These techniques are arising from the growing field of computer control systems and seem to be full of promises: - Predictive and adaptive control, - Expert systems, - Fuzzy logic - Neural networks. But there is still no idea whether these techniques supersede conventional ones and in which conditions they do it. Therefore, an objective testing of specifically selected techniques, based upon a thoroughly documented and detailed methodology should be performed in a European context (in order to take the climatic parameter into account). The tests will be performed using: - Numerical simulations, - Test boxes, - Real buildings (residential and commercial). The first part of the project addresses specific problems concerning control strategies which can lead to innovations. The efforts of the second part of the programme will result in a prototype controller, able to minimize the heating energy requirements of solar buildings while providing high comfort levels. An underlying goal of the project is the identification of specific domains of application for each technique, among the various tasks involved in control operations and among different building types and climates. The comparative analysis should not appear as a kind of 'competition' but rather as a way to point out the complementary aspects of the various techniques.
