Luftqualitäts- und Flugzeugabgas-Messungen auf dem Flughafen Paris CDG

Description: Das Projekt "Luftqualitäts- und Flugzeugabgas-Messungen auf dem Flughafen Paris CDG" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH in der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft, Institut für Meteorologie und Klimaforschung, Teilinstitut für Atmosphärische Umweltforschung durchgeführt. The open-path measurements systems DOAS and FTIR were installed across the taxiway and beside the test pen to measure main engine exhausts or ambient concentrations. The spectrometers were installed inside the trailer in a safe distance to the aircraft. The radiation sources (globar for FTIR, retro-reflector for DOAS) was installed at the ground with tripods in a safe distance to the aircraft, too. The open path lengths are about 200 m (distance between radiation sources and measurement trailer). The composition of main engine and APU exhausts was determined passively by FTIR. The standpoints of this instrument which is installed in the measurement van is perpendicular to the main engine and APU exhaust plume axis in a distance up to about 250 m to the exhausts was near the test pen, a taxiway and a parking place. The aircraft was in a fixed position during the measurement time of about 2 minutes. Emission indices of aircraft exhausts were determined from passive and open-path measurements for a lot of different aircraft types during idle conditions. The altitude profiles of wind and turbulence up to 1,300 m were monitored by acoustic sounding using a Doppler SODAR. Air samples in the exhausts at the test pen or near the taxiways and the parking places were taken using stainless steel canisters and analysed for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and CO in the laboratory using gaschromatographic methods. The sampling time of the canisters was about 1 minute. The NO2 concentrations measured during night are well correlated with mixing layer height: low mixing layer height causes high concentrations and higher mixing layer height lower concentrations. Nocturnal NOx concentrations during low-mixing-layer-height-conditions may reach the same levels as aircraft emissions in very small areas. Thus, meteorological conditions have an important influence in airport air quality.
