Description: Das Projekt "Sub project L^Sub project O^Sub project M^Sub project J^Sub project D^Sub project E^Sub project H^Sub project G^Sub project I^Sub project K^Sub project F^Sub project N^CLIENT China Collaborative project SIGN: Sino-German water supply network - Clean water from the source to the tap, Sub project C" wird/wurde gefördert durch: Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung. Es wird/wurde ausgeführt durch: IWW Institut für Wasserforschung gemeinnützige GmbH.The project will identify drinking water relevant pollutants and it will assess the human and eco-toxicological risks emanating from these sources and pollutants. Based on graded measurements and analytical programs the optimal raw water abstraction sites and abstraction depths are proposed. This approach allows a fast, environmentally and economically sound assessment of the vulnerability and pollution of surface water used as raw water resources. The evaluation is based on the current localized pollution sources and pollutants measured in the surface water and the expected development of raw water quality. Less compromised areas of Tai Hu are identified to serve preferably for drinking water supply. On the basis of analytical results for those substances and their concentrations relevant to drinking water a set of different treatment technologies and their potential will be evaluated. Results are summarized in a concept for water catchment and for treatment strategies. This project has the following objectives: 1. Description of the catchment area of Tai Hu regarding land use, hydrology, (hydro-) geology, and climate 2. Analysis, characterization, and assessment of potential inorganic and organic pollution of the water of Tai Hu and his tributaries 3. Toxicological analyses of water samples 4. Eco- and human toxicological risk assessment of the relevant pollutants 5. Identification and mapping of the most favorable abstraction points of raw water 6. Determination of the most relevant substances for drinking water treatment processes 7. Recommendations for action.
