Concentrating Solar Power & Desalination for Communities in Israel and Jordan (CSPD-COMISJO)

Description: Das Projekt "Concentrating Solar Power & Desalination for Communities in Israel and Jordan (CSPD-COMISJO)" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Bremen, Fachgebiet Technische Thermodynamik durchgeführt. The main objective of this project is to otain cost-effective and durable technical solutions for the use of solar energy in large scale desalination as important step towards the construction of a pilot solar desalination plant. PV powered Reserve Osmosis (RO)-Systems will be compared with Non-Concentrating Solar Collector driven Thermal Desalination (TD)-Systems as well as with Concentrating Solar Power driven RO/TD-Systems. With the Israel and Jordanian partners the solar otentials on three possible demo plant locations will be measured to get reliable time series of the solar insolation potential from satellities. The three different solar systems and the two fundamental desalination methods (TD an RO) will be analyzed to combine them in the best possible manner. Also an experimental test of an intergrated UF-RO membrane will be done. The system with the overall best usability and/or lowest levelized energy and freshwater costs should be built as pilot plant at one of the invatigated sites to introduce large scale solar desalination systems into the market and create more demand on solar systems to reduce also the costs for solar electricity generation
