Description: Das Projekt "Impacts of local government on forest dependent livelihoods in the Northern Bolivian Amazon Region" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Freiburg, Institut für Forst- und Umweltpolitik, Arbeitsbereich Markt und Marketing durchgeführt. Many countries are decentralizing decision making power to lower levels of government. As a result, local governments have greater opportunities to address problems of rural poverty. These governments could implement more effective poverty alleviation if local decision makers had better tools and strategies for prioritising actions and evaluating impacts. This project aims to improve the impact of local government poverty alleviation policies and actions in tropical countries with significant numbers of forest-dependent rural poor. It is implemented and coordinated by CIFOR. Field research teams are working in the department of Pando, Northern Bolivia, and in the districts of Kutai Barat and Malinau, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Five researchers of the Institute of Forest and Environmental Policies, Markets and Marketing Section are part of the Bolivia team. We will contribute to the development of indicators to gauge poverty and the impacts government programs have on poverty. The project will also prepare tools that help local governments develop, implement and evaluate programs to improve the well-being of poor, forest-dependent people.
