Description: Das Projekt "Laborkalibrierung eines CIO/BrO-Detektors" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität-Gesamthochschule Essen, Fachbereich 8 Chemie, Institut für Physikalische und Theoretische Chemie durchgeführt. This project runs in collaboration with the ICG 1 of the Forschungszentrum Juelich (Prof. Dr. D. McKenna) and was intended to be part of the instrument package Chemistry and Dynamics of the Stratosphere which was meant to fly on the highflying aircraft STRATO 2C. The contribution of our group is the calibration of a CIO-monitor, designed at the University of California in Irvine (Dr. D. Toohey), and prepared for ballon flights. In the monitor CIO-radicals are converted to CI-atoms which can sensitively detected by resonance fluorescence. The calibration system consists of a flow tube in which CIO radicals are generated in low concentrations, analyzed by long-path absorption and then supplied to the CIO-monitor. In a second step of the project, the calibration system will be extended to BrO-radicals and to CIONO2-molecules. The latter will be thermally dissociated into NO2 and CIO which can be monitored in the way described above.
