Description: Das Projekt "Application of Swarm Intelligence Optimisation to Multipurpose Multi reservoir system in the Eastern Nile River Basin" wird/wurde gefördert durch: Hydraulic Research Station. Es wird/wurde ausgeführt durch: Technische Universität Dresden, Institut für Wasserbau und Technische Hydromechanik.The output from the optimum reservoir operation is affected by the variations in inflow, amount of sediment trapped, variation in demand due to efficiency of water use for one or more purposes, evaporation losses and the optimisation techniques used to reach the solution. The performance and usefulness of the Swarm Intelligence optimisation output in operation rules derivation are investigated. An optimisation model for the operation of a multiple-purpose multiple-reservoir system will be developed. The applicability of the model by considering a case study of the Blue Nile System in Sudan shall be tested. The literature review of the work done previously showed that the optimisation techniques used in modelling reservoir systems do not represent the system realistically. Therefore the Swarm Intelligence techniques which represent the system better will be used. The literature review also showed that general operation rules are needed more than the optimum computed releases corresponding to specify streamflow sequences. Therefore different linear and non-linear regression models will be tried to derive operation rules using optimisation results. The hypotheses formulated in this study formed the basis for the development of the simulation and optimisation model. The hypotheses will be tested using the case study data from the Blue Nile System, Sudan. data from the same system will be also used to verify the applicability of the model.
