Description: Das Projekt "Metall-Elastomer-Kombination bei Moineau-Motoren fuer hohe Temperaturen in Tiefbohrungen" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Baker Hughes INTEQ GmbH durchgeführt. General Information: By means of Literature and patent researches the state of the art regarding the usability of positive displacement motors incorporating elastomer parts for high temperature use will be evaluated. Starting from the collected literature information, any commercial know-how as well as manufacturing technology will be classified and investigated. The results of this Market study will give indications as to which elastomer and thermoplastic materials will be included in the subsequent experimental evaluation. Possible materials will be investigated regarding their temperature resistance, abrasion resistance, tensile strength, stability in drilling mud, bonding behaviour, workability and manufacturing procedures. The development of materials and manufacturing technologies shall be performed in close cooperation with research institutes and experienced manufacturers. Regarding the reliable functions of the stator tube under high temperatures two basic types of materials shall be investigated, elastomers for temperatures from 150 degree of Celsius to 180 degree of Celsius and thermoplastics for temperatures of 180 degree of Celsius to 250 degree of Celsius. The kind of metal coating to the rotor has to be adapted equally to the borehole conditions and to the lining of the stator. Basically the pairing of metal rotor and non-metal stator inner part forms a critical component of the high temperature positive displacement motor. Also, additional components of the motors have to be designed regarding the high temperature application. This is especially true if rubber-elastic parts are involved such as bypass valves and transmission parts. In general, experimental testing will be performed in the laboratory as well as in the oilfield. Regarding laboratory testing tests on smaller samples, model motors, and pilot motors have to be distinguished. Testing on small-size samples will allow to evaluate materials roughly. Later short segments of motors with already pre-selected materials will be laboratory tested. Finally, complete full size down hole motors of a progressive development stage will be thoroughly tested on the down hole motor test stand. Modifications of the existing laboratory test equipment have to be carried out in order to allow the application of extended temperatures. With the prototype motors field testing will be performed at last.
