Forest Certification Programs as Private Law Making

Description: The rapidly expanding use of forest certification systems around the world has the potential to significantly change the norms and standards governing the operation of forestry firms. The primary purposes of the research are: (1) to clarify the dynamics of private forestry standard setting and enforcement processes and (2) to understand how they will affect and be affected by traditional rules and laws governing forest management. It has led to two articles this year, with a third planned. The next step is to combine the articles into a book on the topic
