Description: Das Projekt "Comparing the Timing and Amplitude of glacial advances in New Zealand, Chile and Antarctica-Climate Synchroneity from the Southern Hemisphere perspective" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, Institut für Isotopengeochemie und Mineralische Rohstoffe durchgeführt. The goal of the proposed study is to address questions related to temporal phase shift and amplitude deviations of global climate changes between the both hemispheres. For this purpose, we will establish a chronology of glacial events in New Zealand, Chile and Antarctica by dating moraines using in situ cosmogenic nuclides and compare the results to Nothern Hemisphere records. Specifically we will address: (i) The temporal evolution of the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) and its decay phase until the Younger Dryas cold reversal. (ii) The question of global synchroneity of these events. (iii) The search for an 'older LGM' global glacial advance. (iv) The coupling of Antartic climate to the rest of the Southern Hemisphere
