Description: Das Projekt "FEELings: User-Feedback for Energy Efficiency and Comfort in Buildings" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Technische Universität Graz, Institut für Baubetrieb und Bauwirtschaft durchgeführt. Energy efficiency plays an important role in the building sector. According to the European Commission, buildings account for 40% of energy consumption and 36% of CO2 emissions in the European Union. To meet the EU's energy efficiency targets, energy consumption of buildings must be reduced. User behavior is a key factor for energy consumption and the actual energetic performance of a building. Studies have shown that a change in user behavior can reduce energy consumption by up to 15%. To date, users and their behavior have not been given enough consideration. Initial research projects use information and communications technologies to analyze and influence user behavior. However, the subjective well-being of building users has only been considered rudimentarily so far. The objective of the FEELings research project is to provide building users with installed panels and mobile applications that allow them to give comprehensive feedback about room quality, e.g. with regard to thermal comfort, functionality of building services, acoustics etc. For this purpose, a new user feedback system will be designed in this project and a basic proof of concept (TRL 3) will be undertaken. The data obtained by the feedback system are combined with the correlating measured room conditions. Methods of data analysis are subsequently used to identify inefficient operating modes. Moreover, the user feedback data can be used to optimize set points of building services with regard to the individual needs of different groups of people, such as elderly or disabled people, children, or men and women. First, information and recommendations for increasing energy efficiency are derived from the data analyses to be supplied to building users and facility management staff. In a second step, the user feedback will be used to optimize the settings of building services systems in a semiautomatic or automatic way. The algorithms required for such analyses are developed in the current research project. In the FEELings project, aspects of privacy play an important role from the beginning. The research project is thus used to examine the impact of such a system on privacy issues. The overall objective is to demonstrate the proof of concept (TRL 3) of such a user feedback system and to investigate its potential for increasing energy efficiency and comfort in buildings. The functional model of the user feedback system developed in the FEELings project will be tested in two different use cases to demonstrate the general applicability.
