Description: Das Projekt "Standardisation of Solid Biofuels in Europe" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Stuttgart, Institut für Energiewirtschaft und Rationelle Energieanwendung durchgeführt. Objective: The overall objective of this Concerted Action is to summarise and evaluate the activities concerning standardization of solid biofuels in Europe as a basis for recommendations on common European solid biofuel specifications. This includes in the first step a discussion on terminology and relevant solid biofuel properties and an analysis and evaluation of determination methods and classifications which are already in use within various European countries. In a second step existing national standardization approaches applicable to other European countries and recommendations on further approaches for consistent European solid biofuel specifications will be elaborated with regard to methods for determination of solid biofuel properties and classifications. This will form a base for a common European solid biofuel standard in the future. The specific objectives of this Concerted Action are: 1. Agreement upon terminology (i.E. Definition and translation of the most relevant terms in this field). 2. Identification of relevant solid biofuel properties that characterise and determine fuel and combustion quality of solid biofuels. 3. Analysis of current frame conditions in Europe concerning standardization of solid biofuels (i. E. standardization committees, standardization procedures, standardization proceedings). 4. Analysis of the present state of the art of solid biofuel standardization within Europe concerning - laboratory and on-field methods for determination of solid biofuels properties and - current classification approaches (like e.g. Fuel particle size distribution for wood chips). 5. Evaluation of already existing standardization approaches in Europe based on the experiences of the project partners gathered with these standards (i.E. Advantages, disadvantages, relevance for practical use). 6. Identification of the applicability of determination methods and classification approaches which already exist in some EC member states to other European countries by taking the local conditions into consideration. 7. Elaboration of recommendations on a common European approach to a solid biofuel standard which is acceptable throughout Europe. 8. List of relevant institutions, research centres, universities and other groups working in this field. Prime Contractor: Universität Stuttgart, Institut für Energiewirtschaft und Rationelle Energieanwendung; Stuttgart.
