Geothermal project Bruchsal - Stage 3

Description: Das Projekt "Geothermal project Bruchsal - Stage 3" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Energie- und Wasserversorgung Bruchsal GmbH durchgeführt. Objective: The ultimate aim of the project is twofold: - to utilize geothermal energy for the heating supply of sports, industrial facilities, and a residential area, and to generate electricity using an organic rankine cycle (ORC). The special aim of phase 5-6 is to connect the production and the injection well and to set up the pumping equipment in order to allow interference tests between the wells GB1 and GB2 and the reservoir evolution. Expected annual energy savings are now estimated at 1000 TOE/yr with a corresponding payback of 20 years. General Information: This is a continuation of the Bruchsal project already supported by EEC contracts DG XII - A2/060 and DG XVII GE 70/81 - GE 214/83. Both wells will be connected, GB2 because of its higher transmissivity will be used as an injection well. The following scientific examinations are scheduled: - Precipitation of Fe-Mn-CO3 components to avoid injectivity decrease. - Water analysis in both wells + gas and isotopic examination - Interaction between geothermal water and reservoir rocks. - Corrosion examination in casing and loop. Achievements: Preliminary results suggest that Bruchsal doublet would be operational at 50 m3/h flow rate - 100 degree C temperature with economic electricity pumping consumption. The 4,5 days injection test has proven the hydraulic, geohydraulic and geochemical workability of the geothermal loop. At 59 m3/h flow rate no pressure increase was measured at the injection well. Operating pressure will be maintained over 10 Bars and the HCl injection system will be kept in operation to maintain a low pH. Prime Contractor: Stadt Bruchsal; Bruchsal; Germany.
