Description: Das Projekt "Rehabilitation and modernisation of SHPP Auerbach by means of a reverse kaplan pressure pipe turbine" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Mürz Wasserkraftmuseum GmbH durchgeführt. Objective: Demonstration of a rehabilitation and modernization of the SHP Auerbach at the river Murz by use of an innovative 'Reverse' Kaplan-Pressure Pipe Turbine. This novel turbine generator set is to replace the existing old Francis Open Flume Turbine, which is out of operation since 1993. Furthermore it is for seen to use for the first time a penstock from wooden staves with regards to environmental and economic aspects. After the erection of the plant, it will become part of the new museum for Renewable Energies in memoriam of Victor Kaplan, the famous inventor of the Kaplan Turbine. Technical data: Number of units = l, Net head = 10.5 m, Rated discharge = 9.60 m3/s, Max. capacity = 897 kW. Estimated annual energy production = 5 764 183 kWh. General Information: - First application of 4-blade 'Reverse' Kaplan-Pressure Pipe Turbine for the given head of 10 m. - Novel suction tube with double bends in a syphon arrangement. - Newly developed runner profile for this special head discharge configuration. - Environmentally friendly plant concept by using special material and bearing techniques as well as a wooden penstock. - Demonstration and dissemination of proposed technique in a museum for Renewable Energies. Achievements: - Optimized energy production: 5.764.183 kWh and substitution of 3000 tROE/a. - Environmentally friendly integration of plant into the existing situation. - Avoiding pollution of river water by using special material, bearing techniques and non-polluting lubricants. - Excellent conditions for demonstration and dissemination of proposed techniques in a public museum.
