Spray Propagation, Mixture Formation, Auto-Ignition and Soot Formation of Multi-Component Fuels

Description: Das Projekt "Spray Propagation, Mixture Formation, Auto-Ignition and Soot Formation of Multi-Component Fuels" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Technische Hochschule Aachen, Lehrstuhl für Angewandte Thermodynamik und Institut für Thermodynamik durchgeführt. In previous research projects in the Non-nuclear Energy R + D programmes a number of optical methods have been successfully aplied to observe the behaviour of model fuels like n-heptane or heptamethylnonane and real diesel fuel injected into an observtion chamber under diesel engine conditions, i.e. at high temperatures and high pressures. The main objective of the proposed investigation is the extension of the existing knowledge to the case of multi-component fuels. Various optical techniques will characterize spray formation and propagation, mixture formation of different fuel species, auto-ignition and soot formation after injection into quiescent or turbulent air. The data will be added to the broad data base from pressure chamber experiments which is already available and used for the assessment of the SPEED and SPICE code.
