Description: Das Projekt "Waste management and recycling of Weee - Process integrated thermal-chemical treatment of halogens containing materials" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH in der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft, Institut für Technische Chemie, Bereich Thermische Abfallbehandlung durchgeführt. A new industrial process will be realized for a (pre) treatment of halogens containing materials to obtain 'clean' fuels and purified noble metal containing residues from a process integrated separation of halogens. Possible feeds are electronic devices (shredder mobile phones or computers) or separated fractions like circuit boards. The reactor concept (pilot scale prototype) - a gas tight cascade of rotary kilns with separate conveyor screws, metal based bulk goods and gas tight connectors - has been developed in the former and still running project 'Halocleanconversion-G1RD-1999-00082'. The results show, that it is possible to generate oils with a halogen content in the PPM-range and a PCDD, PCDF concentration below detection limit. Noble metals can be concentrated easily in a residue fraction of 5 wt-percent of the feed, containing gold up to 2.2 wt-percent. Furthermore, an European-Life-Cycle-Analysis-Centre for polymeric materials will be founded.
