Description: Das Projekt "Deutsch-Australische Kooperation; TP: DVGW, Einfluss von Algen und algenbuertigen Substanzen auf die Wiederverkeimung und die Bildung von Desinfektionsnebenprodukten" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von DVGW Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V. - Technisch-wissenschaftlicher Verein - Technologiezentrum Wasser (TZW) durchgeführt. Algogenic substances are supposed to be easily biodegradable and therefore support regrowth of bacteria when algae containing drinking water is distributed - this might end up in exceeding the standard of colony counts. So far, the effect of algogenic substances in this respect is not very well known and the objective of the research project is to give evidence on the impact of these compounds on regrowth. Moreover, there is a lack of knowledge in the formation of disinfection by-products when applying different disinfectants. It is planned to compare chlorination, ozonation and the use of chlorine diocide. Besides this, a large variety of organic a well as inorganic DBP have to be considered. These experiments will give evidence on typical patterns of algogenic compounds in contrast to humic substances in lakes and reservoirs. The exchange of methods (BRP, DBP) is one of the main objectives in this programme. The research of this project will help to control regrowth while minimizing DBP formation and achieving appropriate disinfection.
