Description: Das Projekt "Liban Lait Biogas CDM Study" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von GFA Envest GmbH durchgeführt. Liban Lait is an integrated dairy and dairy cattle plant. From the production processes accrue the dumped materials of whey and manure. The whey and the manure are disposed of to the surrounding area of the production facilities with only marginal treatment. Through the anaerobic decay of the contained organics generates methane which is a harmful greenhouse gas and which is currently emitted to the atmosphere at the factory site. Due to this environmental pollution and due to concerns about the unstable energy provision from the national electricity grid, Liban Lait is interested in installing a biogas plant for the digestion of whey and manure. This could reduce the pressure on the environment and create a captive and renewable source of energy. The mission is the production of a pre-feasibility study of a biogas plant co-financed through carbon revenues. This includes estimating economic feasibility, assessing technical solutions, climate approaches, calculation of emission reductions, and estimating climate project transaction costs. The services included: Assessment of the legal framework for CDM projects in Lebanon; Selection of an appropriate UNFCCC baseline and monitoring methodology for the CDM development; Review of the projects eligibility as CDM activity; Estimate of the amount of emission reduction certificates; Estimate of the co-financing contribution through carbon revenues and effect on the projects economic feasibility; Investigation of the most suitable climate project approach: CDM or others; Formulate recommendations for Liban Lait.
