Environmentally-oriented Road Pricing for Livable Cities - Application of Agent-based Microsimulation Models to Berlin and Zurich

Description: Das Projekt "Environmentally-oriented Road Pricing for Livable Cities - Application of Agent-based Microsimulation Models to Berlin and Zurich" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Technische Universität Berlin, Fachgebiet Wirtschafts- und Infrastrukturpolitik (WIP), Arbeitsgruppe Infrastrukturökonomie und -management durchgeführt. This project explores environmentally-oriented road pricing schemes for livable cities, using cutting-edge agent-based microsimulation models. These will be applied and checked for coherence with traditional transport modeling tools for two cities representative for large European metropoles: Berlin (Germany), and Zurich (Switzerland). In a multi-agent simulation, all travellers are individually represented, together with their value and decision-making systems. This allows to analyze the reactions of all travellers to different pricing schemes. Its results are also a perfect input for the micro-level procedure for the valuation of external effects, the impact-pathway-approach. The interdisciplinary combination of micro-level traffic simulation and valuation approach helps to improve the assessment of real world implications of urban road pricing.
