Roadmaps towards Sustainability Energy Futures: A Model-Based Assessment of Scenarios for decarbonising the energy system in 21st century (RoSE)

Description: Das Projekt "Roadmaps towards Sustainability Energy Futures: A Model-Based Assessment of Scenarios for decarbonising the energy system in 21st century (RoSE)" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Potsdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung e.V. durchgeführt. In cooperation with FEEM in Italy, JGCR Institute in the USA, ERI and the Tsinghua University in China PIK scientists set up a model-based analysis of the economy of climate policies targeting at carbon dioxid stabilization at 450 and 550 ppm. The aim of this project is to provide a portfolio of roadmaps for establishing sustainable energy systems that also shows options for ambitious aims in climate policy. PIK coordinates the project and takes part with the REMIND model. Overview: The Roadmaps towards Sustainable Energy futures (RoSE) project aims to provide a robust picture on energy sector transformation scenarios for reaching ambitious climate targets. A broad and systematic exploration of decarbonization scenarios for the energy system is indispensable for better understanding the prospects of achieving long-tern climate protection targets. RoSE is assessing the feasibility and costs of climate mitigation goals across different models, different policy regimes, and different reference assumptions relating to future population growth, economic development and fossil fuel availability, in order to provide vital insights into the overarching policy question: What are robust roadmaps for achieving a sustainable global energy future?
