Description: Das Projekt "Enzymatischer Abbau von Cyaniden" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, Laboratorium für Technische Chemie durchgeführt. Cyanides in waste waters are usually oxidized chemically by alkaline chlorination. Recently, however, increased attention has been focussed on the development of enzymatic cyanide degradation, especially in the treatment of food and other industry effluents with relatively low cyanide content. Enzymatic treatment can then offer an alternative to cyanide decomposition by chemical methods which introduce other pollution problems. Fluidized (expanded) bed reactors or membrane reactors of the diffusional type seem to be suitable for a large scale process. The ultimate aim of this research is to develop an enzyme membrane reactor suitable for the processing of original cyanide containing waste waters without pretreatment. In preliminary work a small recirculation differential bed reactor was used. Fundamental kinetic properties of the biocatalyst and mass transfer effects are to be studied.
