Description: Das Projekt "MCFC balance of plant innovation - Design, construction and demonstration of a DFC module pilot plant for co-generation" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH durchgeführt. Objective: Design of a highly innovative Balance of Plant for a DFC Hot Module Pilot Plant for Cogeneration - Evaluation of operational results of preceding test articles ('System Verifier') - Identification of necessary improvements - Conceptual design - Call for bids, selection of vendors, detailed design and engineering - Manufacturing of the Components of the BoP for a DFC Hot Module Pilot Plant for Cogeneration - Construction and installation of the Balance of Plant for a DFC Hot Module Pilot Plant for Cogeneration including the installation of a conventional MCFC stack (Cost for stack not eligible). General Information: THE HOT MODULE comprises a highly innovative and integrated ancillary subsystem for the operation of a MCFC in a real industrial and utility environment and will be tested and demonstrated within this project first time worldwide. The Hot Module Design and the relevant engineering has been carried out under the THERMIE project 00003/93/DE/DK. The innovation of the Hot Module Design is to be seen in a radical simplification of the balance of plant (BoP) for the Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell with a minimum number of interfaces between subsystems as well as a minimum number of interfaces at the battery limits. All subsystems operating at similar hot temperatures are integrated into the Hot Module Vessel representing a repeating building block for larger MCFC plants. THE FUEL PROCESSOR for MCFC plants till now has been built in a traditional plant engineering, manner, which is not applicable to serial production. The fuel processor has reached a high technological level and is proven technology in contrast to the Hot Module, which has never been demonstrated with the exception of dummies. Lower specific cost is only possible in very large plants with respect to the power range. Due to the fact that the target of the ARGE MCFC Development program and in particular of this project is to develop a small marketable DFC Cogeneration Unit this kind of design of the fuel processor is not possible. A compact and highly integrated innovative design is necessary. The complete DFC Cogeneration Unit will comprise three further innovative BoP subsystems: - The Modular Inverter and the Grid Connection - The Control System - The Visualization System as a Human Interface for Operational Process Control.
