Climate Change Consequences for the Cryosphere (C4AUSTRIA)

Description: Das Projekt "Climate Change Consequences for the Cryosphere (C4AUSTRIA)" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Innsbruck, Institut für Geographie durchgeführt. The project C4AUSTRIA will apply airborne LiDAR data and LiDAR relevant tools for the analysis of High Alpine climate impact phenomena. In addition to the world-wide unique LiDAR data record of 17 flights of the Hintereisferner region (Oetztal, Tyrol) two LiDAR campaigns will be carried out to derive permafrost and glacier surface changes. C4AUSTRIA aims at the development of an integrative multitemporal methodology for the monitoring of permafrost and glacier changes and the assessment of technology inherent uncertainties. As alpine permafrost is highly sensitive to climate change impacts, C4AUSTRIA will provide basic data with a high degree of resolution and accuracy. Both, the standardized methodology as well as the LiDAR dataset can be seen as a future standard for a continuous monitoring of climate impact-sensitive Alpine regions.
