Description: Das Projekt "Multifunktionaler Forstbetrieb als Mittel fuer die laendliche Entwicklung (MULTIFOR.RD) (FAIR FP4)" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität für Bodenkultur Wien, Institut für Sozioökonomik der Forst- und Holzwirtschaft durchgeführt. The shared cost project aims at a comparative European analysis about the nature and dynamics of the landowners' and public's attitudes towards forests and forestry, and at developing criteria for distinguishing regional-specific strategies for multifunctional forestry to serve rural development. In order to understand location-specific attitudes on multifunctional forestry and its expected relation to rural development, a series of comparative case studies will be made. In each participating country two case studies will be carried out. In each case study the perceptions and attitudes towards forestry and forest policies of the producers and consumers of forest products and services as well as the local administrators and politicians will be investigated. A quantitative study will be carried out in 9 European countries at the basis of qualitative inquiries in 6 European countries which are considered to represent the various forestry conditions in Europe.
