Description: Das Projekt "Assessment of environmental risks of silver nanomaterials: From chemical particles to technical products" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Bremen, Zentrum für Umweltforschung und nachhaltige Technologien (UFT) durchgeführt. Aim of the project is to acquire fundamental data on behaviour, fate and effects of silver nanoparticles in dependence of the surrounding environmental conditions. In consideration of the modus operandi in REACh, an exemplary risk assessment will be applied. An interdisciplinary consortium from science, industry and regulation authorities will bridge the gap between basic research and practical relevance: Within the project, methods will be developed which will allow a detection of silver nanoparticles in the relevant environmental media and compartments as well as an evaluation of their ecotoxicological potential in these media and compartments. Free silver nanoparticles with defined characteristics as well as products containing silver nanoparticles (textiles) will be investigated under exemplary scenarios of usage. The results will be compiled in a risk analysis. The project is focusing on three main goals which are divided into different work packages: Aim 1: Identification of the correlation of particular characteristics of silver nanoparticles and their behaviour and effects, Aim 2: Investigation of fate, exposition and effect of silver in consumer products, Aim3: exemplary hazard identification and risk assessment.
