Description: Das Projekt "Low-emission cutting of asbestos and contaminated materials with a mobile hand-guided laser system" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Laser Produkt Gesellschaft für Angewandte Lasertechnik und Materialbearbeitung mbH durchgeführt. Objective: Problem occurring for critical material removal, e.g. asbestos, with mechanical cutting methods have not been sufficiently solved in all European countries. When cutting asbestos or contaminated materials with conventional techniques, fibres or other hazardous components are produced and the removed material must be specially treated and disposed. Furthermore, the surroundings have to be quarantined using safety measures and much technical equipment. As the dimensions of these fibres and their diameter to length ratio cause a high physical risk, the fibres must be contained, if possible. The problems described above can be avoided by a new removal processing system. In order to achieve the highest flexibility, a hand-guided laser, which guarantees a clean and environment-friendly low-emission removal of asbestos, will be developed further. Due to the thermal character of laser cutting processes, all emission particles have spherical morphologies, if the process is well adjusted. If no fibres are generated the cutting process is clean. Programming or teaching is not necessary as for conventional CNC machines or robots and there is the advantage of high mobility of the system.
