Description: Das Projekt "F 1.4: Optimizing the use of direct methods for environmental valuation in northern Thailand and Vietnam" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Hohenheim (796), Sonderforschungsbereich 564 Nachhaltige Landnutzung und ländliche Entwicklung in Bergregionen Südostasiens durchgeführt. In F1.4, further geographical up-scaling as well as further deepening of the methodological analysis of the CVM is planned. In Thailand the social value of a pesticide control program for Northern Thailand will be appraised, in Vietnam the WTP of Hanoi residents for a comprehensive landslide protection program in Northern Vietnam will be assessed. Since the population of Hanoi is much more heterogeneous in terms of socio-demographic variables than the population of Yen Chau valuable insights regarding the influence of such variables on WTP for environmental protection are expected. A main methodological goal is to use field experiments in order to test the effect of situational and psychological survey characteristics on stated WTP. The results will be compared to the results from laboratory experiments on the private provision of public goods known from the literature. The second important methodological objective of F1.4 is to scrutinize the usefulness of eye-tracking technology, which is commonly used in marketing experiments, for the optimization of CVM questionnaires and the optical materials used to illustrate project scenarios. A variety of different applications of eye-tracking for CVM survey design will be tested and a standardized guideline for its systematic use in CVM surveys will be developed.
