Hybrid rig for drilling, workover and re-entry work

Description: Das Projekt "Hybrid rig for drilling, workover and re-entry work" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Rautenkranz Internationale Tiefbohr GmbH & Co. KG - ITAG durchgeführt. Objective: The aim of the project is to provide a hybrid rig and under balanced/balanced drilling/re-entry services at low cost and maximum environmental protection to open more marginal fields in Europe for enhanced oil production from new or old (re-entry) fields. The coiled tubing and conventional slim hole technologies will be combined in one drilling rig with reduced manpower on the rig. The application of such a drilling system will permit multiple horizontal wells with extension of the original drainage zone. The hybrid rig will be capable to vertical depth of 2500 m plus a horizontal displacement of 500 m. The need to change rigs for different work will be eliminated. General Information: The project is splitted into five phases. The first phase includes the design of key elements of the hybrid drilling rig like drive system, mast with top drive, substructure, pipe handling, mud system, and the modification of bottom hole assembly components to assure proper interactions between jointed pipe and coiled tubing. The second phase involves the manufacturing of the rig components and composite of existing equipment. Specific coiled tubing drilling bottom hole assembly components and slim hole drill strings are available. During the third phase (assembly/installation) an initial rig-up including the testing of critical components will be completed prior to starting the full field trial program. The forth phase (commissioning) involves the drilling of 2 pilot wells using both technologies, coiled tubing drilling and drilling with jointed pipe. The objective is to demonstrate the economic and technical viability of the complete system. The fifth and last phase is used for completion of reports and dissemination of results. Prime Contractor: ITAG Tiefbohr; Celle; Germany.
