Description: Das Projekt "Demonstrationsprojekt 'Flammenlose, nicht katalytische Oxidation von Schadgasen im Altlastenbereich'" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Ministerium für Umwelt, Natur und Forsten Schleswig-Holstein durchgeführt. In the framework of this demonstration project a technique well known from industrial processes shall for the first time be introduced to treat hazardous gases from waste disposal sites. Compared to common techniques the flameless non catalytic oxidation significantly reduces atmospheric emissions and is also an economically interesting alternative. The process of flameless non-catalytic oxidation introduces an innovative concept to the treatment of gas emissions of landfill sites. The flameless oxidation has previously been successfully used for the waste gas from industrial productions. The flameless oxidation of methane and other toxic components of the landfill gas is supposed to proceed in a ceramic fixed bed. The oxidation process is kept at a temperature of approximately 1000 degree Celsius, similar to the operating temperature in a high temperature flare. The main benefit of this technique evolves from the fact that autothermic operation of the oxidation process occurs even at low methane concentrations in a range where the gas would otherwise not be combustible. This new technique combines the advantages of both methods used for the treatment of landfill gas. Hazardous substances in the landfill gas are effectively treated. The composition of the resulting exhaust gas is comparable that of the high temperature flare exhaust gas. The amount of primary energy needed can be considerably reduced along with a significant decrease in CO2 production. The equipment is easy to service and compares to compost-filters. Depending on the individual condition on site, an exploitation of the process heat may be considered. The flameless, non-catalytic oxidation offers a both economically and ecologically beneficial approach to a technology that meets the provisions for a wide of application and should lead to a broad acceptance.
