Description: Das Projekt "Wind energy assessment and wind engineering" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Oldenburg, Institut für Physik, Arbeitsgruppe Energie- und Halbleiterforschung durchgeführt. A European training-through-research network is proposed in order to study the wind conditions relevant to wind turbine and wind farm design for the implementation of the Wind Energy in Europe. The network is based on:- The Success of a previous network within the HC und M programme in establishing links among European institutes through the co-operative effort of young scientists working in countries other than their own.- The need to foster the necessary exchange of experiences and personal contacts in order to produce a fruitful collaboration for the academic and research institutions and private companies involved. The aim of the network is to bring together young and experienced researchers to work jointly to define the basis for the design of wind turbines and wind fans in different environments. The goals are: - To define reliable values for turbulence descriptors to be used in modelling the turbulent windfields, spectra, coherence etc. in homogeneous and complex terrain and offshore, to offer guidelines for wind turbine design; - To improve existing methods used for modelling wind climates under the different situations existing within Europe to offer reliable tools for wind farm designers in complex terrain and off shore. This project will address all European climates from the cold Baltic and near by North Sea to warmer Mediterranean regions. From the practical side the project will supply knowledge of use to EU energy policies, to local authorities or national and international energy agencies and authorities. Furthermore it will offer guidelines for the best turbine design and best sitting procedures for isolated generators or turbine parks.
