Description: More than half of Germany’s surface (51.1 percent) is agricultural land: It is used as farmland, for the cultivation of permanent crops or as permanent grassland, especially for meadows and pastures. In recent years agricultural areas have declined. One reason for this is the increase in land use for settlements and transport infrastructure – a development with negative consequences for nature and the environment.
