Bei den kleinmaßstäbigen Gebietskarten handelt es sich überwiegend um thematische Karten, in denen einzelne Sachverhalte flächendeckend für eine Region oder das Land Rheinland-Pfalz besonders hervorgehoben sind. Je nach Thematik wird hiebei unterschieden in Übersichtskarten und Verwaltungskarten. Kleinmaßstäbige Übersichts- und Verwaltungskarten besitzen einen für die landesweite Darstellung optimierten Maßstab und eine entsprechende Signaturierung. Sie eignen sich hervorragend als Hintergrund für die Präsentation überregionaler Sachverhalte oder in Form von Geodatendiensten als Einstiegspunkt für die grafische Navigation in einem Internetportal.
