Implications of the Paris Agreement for coal use

Das Projekt "Implications of the Paris Agreement for coal use" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Climate Analytics gGmbH durchgeführt. The project looks into the consequences of the Paris Agreement for planned and existing coal capacity, comparing existing and planned coal capacity for a set of key countries/regions. This project analyses what the latest science tells us about phase-out of fossil fuels and decarbonisation of the power sector in both a 2°C and a 1.5°C worlds and what this means for the planned and existing coal capacity for 2030 and 2050. With the need for rapid transformation and decarbonisation in mind, the resulting report compares existing and planned coal capacity for the European Union, OECD, China and the rest of the world based on data from the Global Coal Plant Tracker with the coal-fired capacity in Integrated Assessment Model (IAM) scenarios consistent with limiting global temperature increase to 2°C and 1.5°C. In addition, the results are compared with the most recent projections of the International Energy Agency (IEA) and underlying differences in assumptions and outcomes are discussed. Lastly, this report compares the decarbonisation pathways obtained from energy-system models (IAMs and IEA models) with the emissions reductions resulting from a range of equity considerations.

Shell 2012 - Marktstudie 2012: Der Wert des Erdgases im deutschen Markt

Das Projekt "Shell 2012 - Marktstudie 2012: Der Wert des Erdgases im deutschen Markt" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Wuppertal Institut für Klima, Umwelt, Energie gGmbH durchgeführt. Shell Energy Deutschland hat das Wuppertal Institut damit beauftragt, die Entwicklung des Wertes von Erdgas im deutschen Markt zwischen 2007 und 2012 zu untersuchen. Die Studie baut dabei auf früheren Analysen des Wuppertal Instituts seit 2005 auf. Die Neuauflage der Analyse schreibt die Ergebnisse fort und berücksichtigt aktuelle Entwicklungen und Trends. Zusätzlich zur Fortschreibung wurden weitere Einflussfaktoren und neue konkurrierende Energieträger, die inzwischen an Bedeutung gewonnen haben, näher analysiert.

Das Projekt "NitroEurope - What is the effect of reactive nitrogen (Nr) supply on net greenhouse gas budgets for Europe? (NitroEurope)" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Leibniz-Zentrum für Agrarlandschaftsforschung (ZALF) e.V., Institut für Landnutzungssysteme und Landschaftsökologie durchgeführt. The objectives are to-establish robust datasets of N fluxes and net greenhouse-gas exchange (NGE) in relation to C-N cycling of representative European ecosystems, as a basis to investigate interactions and assess long-term change, - quantify the effects of past and present global changes (climate, atmospheric composition, land-use/land-management) on CN cycling and NGE, - simulate the observed fluxes of N and NGE, their interactions and responses to global change/land-management decisions, through refinement of plot-scale models, - quantify multiple N and C fluxes for contrasting European landscapes, including interactions between farm-scale management, atmospheric and water dispersion, and consideration of the implications for net fluxes and strategies, - scale up Nr and NGE fluxes for terrestrial ecosystems to regional and European levels, considering spatial variability and allowing assessment of past, present and future changes, - assess uncertainties in the European model results and use these together with independent measurement/inverse modelling approaches for verification of European N2O and CH4 inventories and refinement of IPCC approaches.
