Sustainable environmental friendly decentral technical infrastructure for remote tourist areas in east european emerging countries at the exapmle of the Borjomi National park in Georgia

Das Projekt "Sustainable environmental friendly decentral technical infrastructure for remote tourist areas in east european emerging countries at the exapmle of the Borjomi National park in Georgia" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universität Weimar, KNOTEN WEIMAR, Internationale Transferstelle Umwelttechnologien GmbH durchgeführt. Tourism is one of the fastest growing and biggest economic sectors in the global economy. Most EU countries have seen an increase in both their leisure time and in their disposable incomes in recent years. They are also looking for new destinations, and new ways to spend their leisure time. Caucasian countries are home to more of such destinations than one would think at first sight, and has a large potential for nature-based tourism. It needs to be worked out more in detail what could be understood by sustainable tourist infrastructure development, and how this type of development could be implemented and managed in practice. Especially in the areas of a sustainable tourism development strategy and training and education, there is a need for expertise on how such tourism could be implemented. Objective is to have a fact finding workshop in Georgia to develop reseach projects for the application in EU (FP 7, ENVIRONMENT), NATO (Science for peace - research project) or comparable funding programs.
