The centre ARPAV (Agenzia Regionale per la Prevenzione e Protezione Ambientale del Veneto, Italia) is involved in the research national programme in Antarctica. To study the mass and energy exchange processes it is necessary to have knowledge about the surface layers of the snow pack in climatic conditions typical for the eastern Antarctica icecap. The snow and the meteorological data are collected during different Italian expeditions nearby the existing stations Dome C, Middle Point etc. The data will be processed to the required format for an application in the model SNOWPACK. The parameters of the model have to be adapted for an Antarctic environment. Furthermore a bibliographic analysis is accomplished to compile the actual knowledge about snow modelling in Antarctica.
