Objective: Determination of symptoms, distribution and effects of new forest diseases in regenerations and young stands. General information: originally new forest diseases were observed only in old stands. However, the results of the Bavarian inventory of forest diseases from 1983 indicated, that in some regions also young stands suffers from these new diseases. With respect to the great importance of the younger stages for the conservation of forests - especially where old stands are heavily damaged - it is urgent to systematically inventory and analyse such damages in young stands. With the description of symptoms and analysis of their distribution in young stands an exact determination of increment losses has to be carried out in order to predict the future development of effected individual trees or whole stands. In addition a clear separation of damages caused by conventional biotic or unbiotic factors from others which have new causes. The results of the proposed research project on new forest diseases in regenerations and young stands are considered as prerequisite for the development of sylvicultural measures for the future management of damaged stands.
