MEDPRO - Mediterranean Prospects ist ein Zusammenschluss von 17 renommierten Forschungsinstituten aus Europa und Nordafrika. Das Projekt wurde von EU-Mitteln finanziert und vom Zentrum für Europäische Politikstudien (CEPS) in Brüssel koordiniert. Das Konsortium analysierte die wichtigsten Herausforderungen der nächsten Jahrzehnte für die Mittelmeeranrainer von Marokko bis zur Türkei. Für diese prospektive Untersuchung wurde ein interdisziplinärer Forschungsansatz mit sieben sektoralen Schwerpunktthemen und zwei Querschnittsthemen verfolgt: - Geopolitik und Regierungsführung; - Demographie, Gesundheit und Alterungsprozesse; - Management von Umwelt- und Naturressourcen, - Energie und Vermeidung von Treibhausgasen, - ökonomische Integration, Handel, Investitionen und sektorale Analysen, - Finanzdienstleitungen und Kapitalmärkte, - Humankapital, Sozialversicherung, Ungleichheit und Migration, - Szenarienentwicklung und Impact Assessment, - Szenarien für regionale Entwicklung und Kooperation mit der EU.
The Work Package focuses on the potential for a more unified and integrated European Union High North policy. In this context, common and diverging interests of the EU and its member states towards the High North will be identified and possibilities for a more unified EU strategy towards the High North determined. As specific fields of policies, the management and exploitation of natural resources, environment and climate change policies, traditional security as well as issues of jurisdiction will be analysed. The Work Package includes three major milestones: - The potential role for EU energy policy of the High North as an energy province, bearing in mind the current preponderance of national interests of individual EU states over common Union position. - EU member states' policy on legal issues in the High North, and the prospects for the establishment of a common EU position. Particular focus will be paid to the fishery protection zone and the continental shelf around Svalbard. - The evolution of EU and individual EU member states' perception of the military security relevance of the High North, and the potential for dialogue between Norway and the EU and individual member states.
The position paper discusses the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic for the global economy and geopolitics, for the countries of the Global South and for international environmental and sustainability policy. On this basis, the paper proposes approaches for a substantive reorientation of international environmental and sustainability policy. For example, the nexus of environment and health should be given more attention and the resilience of economic and social systems should be established as a requirement. SRM is supposed to mask global warming by enhancing the earth’s albedo, for example by stratospheric aerosol injection. Thus altering the whole climate system, SRM would impact most areas of life. The risks for geopolitics, mitigation deterrence, ecosystems, justice, food security and water availability are illustrated in this graphic.
SRM soll die globale Erwärmung durch die Erhöhung der Albedo der Erde maskieren, zum Beispiel durch das Einbringen von Aerosolen in die Stratosphäre. Dies würde das gesamte Klimasystem verändern und damit weitreichende Auswirkungen auf alle Lebensbereiche haben.
