Das Projekt "Modellierung der Verbindungen zwischen Klima und Gesellschaft" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Universite de Geneve, Institut Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales durchgeführt. The project examines marginal agriculture and developing areas where we believe the effects of climate change on population growth and movement will be significant and where societies will be called upon to adjust their behavior to adapt to these changes. In previous research carried out at the University of Michigan, the principal researchers elaborated a computerized model, CLIMSOC, that described various climate-society linkages, emphasizing social, political, and economic interactions. In the current project CLIMSOC will be expanded to incorporate the results of other existing models that explore similar environmental issues (e. g. EPA, IIASA). Empirical data are being collected to validate CLIMSOC. It can then be used to design scenarios to show users and policy makers the possible consequences for climate and society of cultural choices and political decisions.
