Das Projekt "Renewable Energy and Sustainable Tourism" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Berliner Energieagentur Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung durchgeführt. Renewable Energy for Sustainable Tourism (REST) is designed to encourage the uptake of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures in hotels and guest houses across the European Union. The aim is to develop a network of zero-energy hotels, which will be promoted through reciprocal marketing and a website. Participating hotels will receive a subsidised Energy Audit and then draw up an Action Plan setting out a route towards zero energy use. To stay within the REST-Hotels network, all hotels will be required to make some renewable energy implementations by the first milestone of the Action Plan (which will usually be within 2 years). Typical renewable energy features will include solar water heating, photovoltaic panels and biomass or biofuelled central heating systems. Some hotels will also switch to green electricity (in member states where it is available). Result: It is expected that hotels will on average save 20 percent of their energy use, with an average reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 20 percent. Up to 80 percent of participating hotels will be expected to install renewable energy measures. Hotel visitors will be supplied with information about the project and renewable energy, and may be motivated to carry out RE projects themselves having seen them to be practical and cost-effective.
