Das Projekt "Populationsgenetik von Septoria-Pathogenen bei Weizen" wird vom Umweltbundesamt gefördert und von Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, Institut für Pflanzenwissenschaften, Bereich Phytomedizin durchgeführt. The Septoria diseases on wheat, caused by Septoria tritici and Stagonospora nodorum, are increasingly important throughout wheat production areas around the world. Control of these diseases relies mainly upon fungicides and resistant varieties. To achieve low input and sustainable control of Septoria diseases will require knowledge of the processes that drive the evolution of these pathogens in agricultural ecosystems. DNA-based marker systems are used to determine how pathogen populations evolve using different disease management options and to monitor the movement of individuals through space and time.
