This dataset contains information on species presence in and at lakes in Northern Germany. Most of the lakes are gravel pit lakes. All lakes that contain "fish data" only are natural lakes (N=6). Depending on lake and biological taxa, lakes were sampled several times. This datasheet contains information on species presence from the first sampling event to represent roughly equal sampling efforts between the lakes. The complete database with all sampling events is available via www.fred.igb-berlin.de (DOI: 10.18728/igb-fred-807.0) Detailed metadata can be found in the Freshwater Metadatabase (http://data.freshwaterbiodiversity.eu/metadb/bf_mdb_view.php?entryID=FWM_38) and in the Freshwater Metadata Journal (https://doi.org/10.15504/fmj.2023.53).
The field data provide species distribution data of a freshwater invertebrate group called large branchiopods from freshwater habitats from one of the megadiverse regions of the world, Western Ghats of India. The data have been collected from 2009 until 2017 at 45 localities. Qualitative representative sampling was carried out using a hand net having a mesh size of 150 µm. A total of 12 species including three new endemic species and two distinct populations of large branchiopods were observed in the sampled localities (Schwentner et al. 2012; Rogers and Padhye 2014; Padhye and Ghate 2016; Padhye et al. 2018; Modak et al. in press). These habitat data, therefore, are important in the context of biodiversity conservation planning and management in general. Detailed metadata can be found in the Freshwater Metadatabase (http://data.freshwaterbiodiversity.eu/metadb/bf_mdb_view.php?entryID=FWM_21) and in the Freshwater Metadata Journal (http://data.freshwaterbiodiversity.eu/metadb/showfmjarticle.php?dbcode=FWM_21).
The database comprises the distribution of freshwater fish species in 28 Italian lakes. Data were obtained between 2007 and 2014 from standardised (CEN based) samplings with benthic and mesopelagic multi-mesh gillnets. The database offers a detailed description of the biodiversity of fish communities in the Italian regions of Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Sardinia including both natural lakes and reservoirs. Detailed metadata can be found in the Freshwater Metadatabase (http://data.freshwaterbiodiversity.eu/metadb/bf_mdb_view.php?entryID=FWM_19) and in the Freshwater Metadata Journal (https://doi.org/10.15504/fmj.2018.35).
The dataset includes data on fish species distribution along the shoreline of 25 Italian lakes and reservoirs achieved by point abundance standardised electrofishing. Data were obtained between 2007 and 2014. The database offers a detailed description of the biodiversity of fish communities in the Italian regions of Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Sardinia including both natural lakes and reservoirs. Detailed metadata can be found in the Freshwater Metadatabase (http://data.freshwaterbiodiversity.eu/metadb/bf_mdb_view.php?entryID=FWM_20) and in the Freshwater Metadata Journal (http://freshwaterjournal.eu).
<p>During 23 years, 3 institutions sampled fish in the Belgian part of the river Meuse with two distincts methodologies.</p> <p>Data were provided by the survey of fish passages in fish ladders at Tailfer (upstream Namur) and Lixhe (downstream Liège) over the 1989-2011 period (Matondo & Ovidio 2016). Fish were collected daily in a trap placed in the upper pool of the ladder when the migration peaks occurred, and twice a week outside the major migration period. All the fish species were identified and species abundances were estimated without taking into account the juveniles and the youngs-of-the-year. Annual fish abundances were expressed as monthly averages.</p> <p>Data from Hastière, Andenne and Visé were provided by electrofishing from a boat along the banks in 1994, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Abundances were expressed as number of individuals by 100m² of river sampled.</p>

<p>The B-BLOOMS2 dataset resulted from the monitoring of 4 Belgian reference lakes during the bloom seasons in 2007 and 2008. It is composed of 278 sample events for which 17 environmental parameters are available, as well as HPLC based pigment analysis, zooplankton counting, proportion of cyanobacterial populations (from genus to species), and MC-LR concentrations determined by ELISA. Molecular data acquired during this project are also available (http://hdl.handle.net/2268/213145). </p><p>These data were acquired with the financial support of BELSPO in the frame of the Science for a Sustainable Development programme funding the project B-BLOOMS2 (SD/TE/01). The final report is available at: http://www.bblooms.be/BBLOOMS2_FinalReport.pdf</p>
The Midden-Limburg dataset contains data on local habitat conditions and taxonomic community composition of multiple aquatic organism groups (phytoplankton, zooplankton, aquatic vegetation, macro-invertebrates and fish) from 38 interconnected fish ponds in the fish pond complex Midden-Limburg (Limburg, Belgium). The selection of fish ponds represents five different pond management types.
The database of the MANSCAPE project(Integrated management tools for water bodies in agricultural landscapes) comprises species occurrence data of eight different organism groups (phytoplankton, diatoms, zooplankton, benthic chironomids, aquatic macro-invertebrates, macrophytes, amphibians and fish) and data on physical, chemical and morphometric variables of 126 small farmland ponds distributed over almost the entire Belgian territory.
